Is Your Stress Bucket Full?

Ever feel like you’re just one more email, one more demand, or one more argument away from completely losing it?

That’s because your stress bucket is overflowing.

Stress and blood sugar are tightly connected. High stress levels keep cortisol high, making it hard for insulin to do its job of getting energy into cells.

What’s filling your bucket?

✅Work deadlines, long hours, and constant pressure

✅ Poor sleep, skipping workouts, and relying on caffeine

✅ Processed foods, sugar spikes, and blood sugar crashes

✅ Doomscrolling, notifications, and never unplugging

✅ Saying "yes" to everything and having no time for yourself

✅ Ignoring chronic health issues

Each of these adds more stress to your bucket. And when it overflows? 💥 You feel exhausted, anxious, irritable, and burnt out.

Unfortunately, most of us are operating with a mostly-full bucket of stress. That’s just our daily normal of bad news, work stress, financial strain, family obligations, and creeping health issues.

So it doesn’t take much to push us overflowing.

You snap, you lash out, or you get sick, get a crippling migraine, or become depressed and anxious.

Stress is a survival mechanism. It’s there to tell us when to fight or run away. But our modern lives compound stress constantly, meaning we are in “fight or flight” mode all the time.

What’s happening inside your body?

When stress piles up, your body goes into survival mode

⚡ Your cortisol (stress hormone) stays high, making you wired but tired.

📉 Blood sugar spikes and crashes, leaving you foggy and craving junk.

👀Insulin can’t do its job getting energy into cells

🛑 Your body holds onto fat (especially around the belly).

💤 Sleep suffers, making it even harder to recover.

Sound familiar?

We often normalize walking around with this much stress and wear it as a badge of honor. “Hustle culture”, burning the candle at both ends, juggling work and family.

I get it, I struggle with it the same as you.

But honestly, right now, chronic stress is killing us.

Sorry to be such a downer, but it’s true!

The good news is that there are simple, actionable steps anyone can take to reduce stress.

Simple ways to reduce stress

🛑Set boundaries – Say "no" to unnecessary commitments and unplug when possible.

🍳Fuel your body – Eat protein, healthy fats, and fiber to keep energy stable.

🚶🏽‍♂️Move daily – Even a 10-minute walk or a few deep breaths help reset your stress response.

💤Prioritize sleep – No screens an hour before bed, and aim for 7-8 hours of rest.

🌲Get outside – Sunlight and fresh air lower cortisol naturally.

😮‍💨Take time to breathe – Even just stepping away for 5 minutes to take a few deep breaths will calm you down.

Here’s the breakdown:

  1. Stress increases cortisol and switches your body into survival mode.

  2. This makes it harder for insulin to do its job of getting energy into cells, making you more insulin resistant.

  3. Fat cells are on lock down when you are stressed, so you can’t burn fat effectively.

  4. When your cells can’t get energy, you feel lethargic, unfocused, fatigued and foggy.

  5. Insulin resistance affects your brain too, leading to poor mood, anxiety and depression.

  6. Which are all the ingredients for pre-diabetes, Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and more.
