Why Kettlebells Are My Secret Weapon

Swings, cleans, highpulls and snatches

I am a fan of just about any mode of exercise:

Running, swimming, yoga, pickleball, CrossFit, Olympic lifting, rucking, hiking, walking.

If it gets you moving and makes you happy, I am here for all of it.

Everyone benefits from a mix of low-impact body-weight and cardio movements with some form of resistance training.

But I do have a personal favorite:

Kettlebells 🏋️(why is there not a kettlebell emoji?!)

Over the last few years, I’ve become a kettlebell fanatic.

Most of my personal daily fitness routine uses kettlebells, and I love it.

I’ve gained so much functional strength, power and endurance from getting good with just a couple of kettlebells.

I love them for their versatility; Great for strict lifts and strength movements, but also amazing for a strong core, explosive power and a cardio boost.

They are fantastic tools for anyone; experienced or just starting out.

Dumbbells are great, and I love a barbell if you have the space.

But nothing beats a kettlebell in terms of versatility, simplicity and the economy of space you need for them.

I use them as a key tool with most of my fitness coaching clients.

💥 Why kettlebells are such a powerful tool:

  • Full-body strength and cardio in one: Kettlebell movements like swings, snatches, and cleans recruit multiple muscle groups and elevate your heart rate—building strength and cardio at the same time.

  • Boosts grip and core strength: The offset weight and dynamic nature of kettlebell work forces your core and grip to engage more than traditional dumbbells or machines.

  • Improves joint mobility and stability: Kettlebell flows and ballistic movements enhance shoulder, hip, and spine mobility while reinforcing joint integrity through controlled movement.

  • Burns serious calories fast: Research shows kettlebell training can burn up to 20 calories per minute, rivaling high-intensity interval training (HIIT) for fat loss and conditioning.

  • Trains real-life, functional movement: Kettlebells mimic everyday tasks—lifting, carrying, rotating, hinging—making them ideal for building strength you can actually use.

  • Takes up almost no space: One kettlebell can replace an entire rack of equipment—making it perfect for home workouts or travel.

I get it, kettlebells may seem intimidating at first. They’re big balls of iron with a handle.

No rubberized handles, no fun colors.

But I’ll tell you what - for my money nothing beats them.

If you want to get functionally strong, really strong, and see your power and endurance explode?

Kettlebells are the way to go. 💪

Bells are my favorite piece of equipment to use with my fitness clients both in person and virtual.

If you’re interested in getting fit in as little time and with as little equipment as possible, we should talk. 💬
